These days, there are more ISPs available, and many customers have noticed that 10 Gbps plans are becoming more affordable. For instance, SIMBA’s 10 Gbps fibre broadband service is now just $29.90 per 30 days.

One common concern is the installation process, but it’s actually quite straightforward. Here’s a quick guide:

  1. Plug the Optical Network Terminal (ONT) into the fibre port on your wall.
  2. Connect the ONT to your wireless router using the purple cable provided.
  3. Connect any devices that need a wired connection to the back of your router.

For optimal performance, it’s a good idea to perform a factory reset on your router after setup.

Keep in mind that older routers may limit your speed to 1 Gbps. To fully benefit from the 10 Gbps service, consider upgrading to a router with Wi-Fi 7 and a 2.5 Gbps or 10 Gbps WAN port. If you use a PC, you might also want to add a Wi-Fi 7 PCIe card or a PCIe 10GbE card. For speed testing, you can use an OWC Thunderbolt device connected to the USB-C 3 port on your notebook or MacBook.
