Previous, TPG was using Yes4G as their data roaming partner. Last week, TPG announced they have switched data roaming partner to Celcom.

Although we are unable to travel across the border, we are able to get the signal near Woodlands. The phone beeped and sent a SMS message “Welcome to Malaysia”.

We are able to get the 3G signal. The 3G signal is very strong on band 1 (2100 MHz). Unfortunately, 4G signal doesn’t seem to be detected.

Celcom 4G supports bands 1,3,7 and 8 with bands 1 and 8 supporting both 3G and 4G. Previously, Yes 4G only ssupports Band 20, 38 and 40 which some older phones don’t support Band 20 resulting in weak coverage (of bands 38 and 40).

Running speedtest does work but at a low of 0.09 Mbps. Calls can go through through the VoLTE or app.
