HTC One X Video Review
Bluetooth 1 Apr 2012

HTC announced it’s availability of the new HTC One X on 2 Apr 2012 (tomorrow). We are delighted to be able to try out this amazing phone at the HTC One World Event held at Marina Bay Sands Hall Press Event.

When we first looked at the exterior of the HTC One X, we were attracted by it’s polycabonate unibody. It just look spectacular in it’s own. Powered by the NVIDIA Tegra 3 mobile processor at 1.5GHz, it gives the phone a speed boost with the multi core GPU. It is powered by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

The screen is exceptionally sharp and white is definitely white and not grey to the eyes. Reading from the screen is a pleasure as it has a 4.7″ 720p HD screen crafted from contoured Corning Gorilla Glass.

As it is a smartphone with multimedia as focus, the HTC One X comes with an amazing camera and audio playback. With ImageSense HTC One is able to compete with digital camera with it’s fast speed ImageChip and lens. In merely 0.7s, you can take a shot without missing out the important scenes. The phone is also capable of doing sperfast capture at 0.2secs auto focus by holding the shutter button.

The f/2.0 lens is also capable of capture at low light or even no light. It also includes HDR for taking photos at varying levels of brightness.

With Video Pic, you can capture a photo and video shoot at the same time. You can rewind the video, and take a shot you missed in the video capture too.

You can also share photos and videos with Dropbox as it is integrated with HTC Sense. Most importantly, you can now share your contents, play games, read emails via HTC Media Link HD (See video 2 on page 2). It is definitely easier to configure than any others in the market.

As for audio, it has Beats by Dr. Dre integrated. With HTC Sync Manager, you can sync with iTunes or Windows Media Player. You can also listen to streaming internet radio station on the move with the car stereo clip.

On page 2, we will show you how easy HTC Media Link HD works.

HTC ONE SERIES UNVEILED IN SOUTH ASIA

HTC One™ Highlighted by an Amazing Camera, Authentic Sound Experience and
Innovative Media Link HD Display

Unprecedented momentum for HTC One series – available beginning in April with broad
global availability through more than 130 mobile operators and distributors

SINGAPORE – March 30, 2012 – HTC, a global designer of smartphones, today unveiled its new
HTC One series of smartphones that represent its most premium mobile experience with a new
level of iconic design, consisting of an amazing camera, authentic sound and state-of-the-art
Media Link HD Display.

Video 1 – Presentation part 1 of 2

“One of the key objectives for the HTC One series, was to enable the user to remember their
best moments in life easily, whether it be capturing a photo or listening to a song, so it was
crucial for us to improve these emotional experiences with an amazing camera and authentic
sound experience,” said Lennard Hoornik, President of HTC South Asia Pacific. “We are very
focused on creating an invaluable camera and audio experience that is user-friendly, so
customers will love using it and we believe that the HTC One series will deliver this like never
before.”

With HTC’s most premium experience, the HTC One series integrates Android 4.0 (ICS) with HTC
Sense™ 4, the new version of HTC’s branded user experience that is introducing HTC
ImageSense™, a new suite of camera and imaging features that set HTC One apart from other
phones. HTC Sense 4 also includes broad enhancements to audio quality and simplifies how
people listen to music on their phone.

Amazing Camera

With ImageSense HTC One rivals traditional digital cameras with improvements to every part of
the camera, including the lens, the sensor, the software, and even integrating a new custom HTC
ImageChip. These enhancements combine to deliver our fastest image capture, best image
quality under adverse conditions and easiest interface that enables quick access to capturing
stills and videos with side-by-side photo and video capture buttons.

. Superfast Capture – HTC One dramatically reduces the time it takes to capture those key
moments. In just 0.7 seconds you’re able to take a shot, and with a new superfast 0.2-
seconds autofocus, continue to take nearly unlimited continuous shots simply by
holding the shutter button.

. Good photos in adverse conditions – HTC One delivers dramatic enhancements in image
capture quality even in adverse conditions such as low light, no light or with bright
backlighting. The f/2.0 lens on the HTC One X offers best-in-class performance,
capturing 40 percent more light than the f/2.4 lenses available on other high-end
phones. HTC One also includes HDR, a market-leading technology, for taking great
photos even when there are varying levels of brightness.
. Video Pic (Concurrent Video/Still Capture) – With Video Pic you capture a photo and
shoot video at the same time. Now, while you’re shooting HD video, all you have to do
is tap the shutter button and it snaps a high-resolution still photo while the video
continues to shoot. You are also able to capture a photo frame from a previously
recorded video.
. Dropbox integrated with HTC Sense – HTC One gives you an easy way to save and share
your photos and videos. HTC has integrated Dropbox into HTC Sense 4 enabling HTC One
customers to get 25 gigabytes of free Dropbox space for two years. That’s enough to
keep more than 10,000 high-quality photos. Dropbox is also integrated throughout HTC
Sense 4, so it’s easy to edit, save and share your documents and other kinds of files.
. Sharing your photos and more – HTC One gives you a new way to share your photos and
videos. When you plug in HTC’s wireless Media Link HD* accessory into your TV’s HDMI
port, you can easily share your photos, videos, or anything else on your phone with your
friends, family or colleagues regardless of the television’s brand as long as it has HDMI.

Google plans to open online store to sell Tablets online

Posted on 30 March 2012 by

According to WSJ, Google Inc is planning to open an online store to sell tablet PCs directly to consumers. It is said that the online store would offer tablets from Samsung and Asus powered by Android.

A few years ago, Google sold the Nexus phone online direct to consumers but shut it down after 4 months. Google probably wasn’t ready to handle retail issues that they are not familiar with at that time.

Google may co-brand some of the tablets sold through the store and has considered subsidising the cost of future tablets to make them more competitive with the Kindle Fire, according to the Journal report. It is unclear when Google plans to open the store.

Kingston HyperX KHX2400C11D3K4/8GX Review
Bluetooth 23 Mar 2012

With more boards supporting overclock speeds of DDR3-2400, ram manufactures are releasing new modules that are capable of running these overclocked speeds with latest processors and chipsets in market. As these new modules comes in a pack of 4, it is just best suited to pair it with the Intel X79 system as it supports Quad Channel DDR3.

Today, we take a look at Kingston KHX2400C11D3K4/8GX.

Kingston’s KHX2400C11D3K4/8GX is a kit of four 256M x 64-bit (2GB) DDR3-2400 CL11 SDRAM (Synchronous DRAM)
1Rx8 memory modules, based on eight 256M x 8-bit DDR3 FBGA components per module. Each module kit supports
Intel® XMP (Extreme Memory Profiles). Total kit capacity is 8GB. Each module kit has been tested to run at DDR3-2400 at
a low latency timing of 11-13-11 at 1.65V. The SPDs are programmed to JEDEC standard latency DDR3-1333 timing of
9-9-9 at 1.5V. Each 240-pin DIMM uses gold contact fingers.

The JEDEC standard electrical and mechanical specifications are as follows

XMP TIMING PARAMETERS
• JEDEC: DDR3-1333 CL9-9-9 @1.5V
• XMP Profile #1: D3-2400 CL11-13-11 @1.65V
• XMP Profile #2: D3-2133 CL11-12-11 @1.65V

In our test, we put the ram modules to test on our Biostar TPower X79 motherboard (review of board with ram here).

On the next page, we run the ram module under the Biostar Tpower X79 in both XMP Profile #1 and XMP Profile #2.

PCCW mobile PioneersHuawei’s 3GPP R8 Smartphone Optimization Solution to Reduce Signaling Traffic by over 25%

Posted on 23 March 2012 by

PCCW mobile PioneersHuawei’s 3GPP R8 Smartphone Optimization Solution to Reduce Signaling Traffic by over 25%

HONG KONG, March 22, 2012 – PCCW mobile has adopted Huawei’s pioneering smartphone signaling optimization solution to further enhance its network performance and improve mobile broadband experience to its customers. The 3GPP-Release-8 (3GPP-R8)-based smartphone signaling optimization solution can significantly reduce 3GPP-R8 smartphone signaling traffic by over 25%.

Mobile broadband traffic has increased sharply over the pastfew years due to the increasingly popular use of smartphones. The preponderance of “heartbeat” applications (those that frequently transmit small data packets) and smartphones’ frequent changes from active to idle mode create high signaling traffic, which puts pressure on mobile networks and potentially affects capacity and quality.

An end-to-end solution is required to solve increasing traffic and the signaling storms brought upon by an increasing number of smartphones. A joint effort between Huawei and PCCW mobile during the past few months has delivered a solution that optimizes smartphone signaling behavior.

Live network statistics have shown that the solution reduces by over 25% of redundant signaling load from PCCW mobile’s 3GPP-R8 smartphone signaling process while significantly enhancing network performance and improving mobile broadband connectivity.

Mr. Adam Wong, Head of Engineering, Wireless Business of HKT, said, “We really appreciateHuawei’ssolution. Signaling traffic produced by smartphones brings real pressure to networks. With this smartphone signaling optimization solution, networks can bring customers a much better experience.”

Mr. Ying Weimin, President of Huawei’s GSM&UMTS&LTE wireless networks, said, “It took several months for Huawei and PCCW mobile to finish the testing of our signaling solution on existing networks. The high performance of this solution shows that Huawei is capable of innovation to help customers’ succeed.”

PCCW mobile has fully implemented the 3GPP-R8 smartphone signaling optimization solution on its UMTS network. As the penetration of 3GPP-R8 smartphones is increasing, the solution will help PCCW mobile manage the increasing volume of HSPA+/UMTS data traffic on its network and deliver improved mobile broadband experience to its customers.
