Sony Xperia Z the 5″ Android smartphone with dust and water resistance
Bluetooth 27 Feb 2013

These days when you walk on the streets, you would see people with large screen phones, so much so that you thought they are talking to a piece of white bread. The conventional 3 inches to 4.2 inches might be too straining to the eyes while those 5.5 inches bread-phone is simply too big and ugly. Well, it looks like the Japanese have thought of If you find someone talking to a piece of white bread, you will know that particular device is way beyond what most can accept. A 5 inches display should be the optimum size for a smartphone.

Unboxing Video

Sony Xperia Z, the first full 5 inches reality display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 smartphone in a compact water proof design form factor. The Xperia Z is 7.9mm thin and is highly durable with tempered glass and anti shatter film on the front and back and it is IP 55 and IP57 certified for dust and water resistant. With the larger screen, the Xperia Z really comes handy with display of text, images and videos. Powered by the Snapdragon S4 Pro Quad Core processor,, touch experience has never been that smooth before. In fact, I don’t find the lag that was experienced on the earlier Acro S. The Xperia Z improves on power management with a new feature BATTERY STAMINA mode which improves the standby time by 4 times or more by automatically shutting down battery draining apps.

The Xperia Z comes with a  13 megapixel fast capture camera which performs just like a HD camera. Exmor RS for mobile, the world’s first image sensor with HDR video is available on the Xperia Z. Take photos with more details even under low light conditions.

Similar to the Xperia V, the Xperia Z allows you to share music, photos and videos to the new BRAVIA TV. Simply touch the remote control of the TV and mirror the contents to the large screen Sony TV using NFC.

LG Optimus LII Series — Continuation of Unique Design Heritage
The Optimus LII Series incorporates the refined sensibilities of LG’s L-Style design philosophy. Each 3G phone’s subtle yet bold aesthetics are representative of LG’s unmistakable design DNA. Surpassing the beauty of the first L Series, the Optimus LII Series were developed around four new design elements: Seamless Layout, Laser Cut Contour, Radiant Rear Design and a home button with Smart LED Lighting. The Optimus L3II, Optimus L5II and Optimus L7II will all be on display at MWC.

Creative and Friendly UX — Intelligent Features That Go Beyond Hardware
LG continues to develop the most advanced UX in order to provide unrivaled user-centric features in the era of LTE technology and large, high-resolution displays. The company’s four new smartphone series include an array of advanced UX features that were designed to take maximum advantage of the hardware specific to these devices.

First unveiled on LG’s Optimus G, QSlide provides the ability to display two full-sized windows simultaneously, enabling users to perform a greater combination of tasks with increased efficiency. WD My Net N900 Central 2TB wireless router has amazing throughput

Posted on 24 February 2013 by

WD My Net N900 Central 2TB is a wireless router by Western Digital. Being a dual band router, it supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz band connectivity.

In our simple test, we hooked up the router to the M1 Fibre 100Mbps broadband to share out the internet. The router is connected to various devices, ranging from my notebook, iPhone, iPad, LG E900 and the Sony Xperia Z smartphone etc.

Using the Sony Xperia Z, we use the speedtest.net application to do a simple test. The phone is connected to the SSID assigned to the 5GHz band.

To our surprise, we are able to get a great improvement in WiFi speed. We were able to achieve a downlink speed of 88Mbps and an uplink speed of 91Mbps. This is nearly close to the wired speed of 91Mbps for downlink. Below is a screen shot of the speed test result.

Gigabyte launches thin Mini-ITX Series motherboards Leading the Development of the DIY All-in-One PC Ecosystem

Posted on 21 February 2013 by

Taipei, Taiwan, February 20th, 2013 – GIGABYTE TECHNOLOGY Co. Ltd., a leading manufacturer of motherboards and graphics cards, today announced the debut of its latest motherboards series based on the Thin Mini-ITX form factor. The new GIGABYTE H77TN and B75TN motherboards enable the creation of slim and compact All-In-One (AIO) PC designs that adhere to Intel’s AIO PC specification.

Featuring a low profile design that is 43% thinner than traditional Mini-ITX motherboards, GIGABYTE Thin Mini-ITX motherboards offer a full featured PC experience with performance and specification options that you’d expect from a traditional desktop PC setup. In addition, GIGABYTE’s Thin Mini-ITX motherboards also offer flexible power input and IO expansion specifications that make them suitable for a broad range of commercial and industrial PC designs that also conform to Intel’s Thin Mini-ITX specification.

“GIGABYTE’s Thin Mini-ITX motherboards underline our commitment to the desktop PC market and cement our leadership position in the high growth AIO segment,” commented Henry Kao, Vice President of GIGABYTE Motherboard Business Unit. “By embracing new form factors like Thin Mini-ITX, GIGABYTE is enabling continued innovation in desktop PC design while also opening doors to market segments, such as industrial PCs, that we have not traditionally serviced.”

“IDC is expecting the AIO growth rate to be about 26% over the next three years. It is no surprise that AIO is the hot growth market for desktop systems in 2013 and beyond. We are thrilled to see GIGABYTE participating in the development of this important AIO ecosystem”, said Steve Dallman, Intel Vice President for the Reseller Channel. “In particular, we are excited to see GIGABYTE enabling new products, based on the Intel® B75 and H77 Express chipsets, for both small business and home platforms. I look forward to the new AIO systems, built upon these new GIGABYTE Thin Mini-ITX motherboards that will soon be in the market”.

GIGABYTE Thin Mini-ITX Motherboards

The GIGABYTE H77TN and GIGABYTE B75TN motherboards are based on the Intel® H77 and B75 chipsets supporting 2nd and 3rd generation Intel® Core™ processors. At just 17cm x 17cm, and a mere 2.5cm high, GIGABYTE Thin Mini-ITX motherboards also integrate flexible power specifications that include a selectable panel power driver, selectable back light power including 12v and 19v options, and a wide 12v to 19v voltage input range for a variety of power source options.

GIGABYTE Thin Mini-ITX motherboards also offer excellent IO flexibility with a x4 PCI Express expansion slot accompanied by both mSATA and Mini PCIe slots offering a wide range of modern and legacy IO options.

The Thin Mini-ITX: A Quickly Evolving Eco-system

Thin Mini-ITX builds on the popular and mature 17cm x 17cm Mini-ITX form factor, adding an additional 2.5cm IO shield height limitation that ensures compatibility with thinner chassis and builds. Other optimizations such as CPU socket placement and SODIMM memory come together to make a form factor that is built to power sleek system designs that don’t compromise on performance and features.

Several All-in-One chassis designs that follow Thin Mini-ITX guidelines are currently available and dozens more expected later in 2013, Most of the chassis combine touch-capable HD displays, internal cooling component and are geared to work seamlessly with GIGABYTE Thin Mini-ITX motherboards.

GIGABYTE Thin Mini-ITX motherboards make an excellent choice in a range of slim-line industrial and commercial spaces including POS systems, casino gaming PCs, industrial PCs and digital signage units. However a GIGABYTE Thin Mini-ITX motherboard is the starting point for any DIY user or enthusiast builder looking to create their own All-in-One PC.

HTC unveils new flagship phone HTC One with a new interface

HTC unveils new flagship phone HTC One with a new interface

With a sleek aluminum body, a live home screen that streams all of your favorite content, a photo gallery that comes to life, and dual frontal stereo speakers, the New HTC One is ready to reshape your smartphone experience.

The phone will go on sale in late March. HTC says US partners will include AT&T, Sprint Nextel and T-Mobile, but specific availability dates and prices were not announced.

The new HTC One has a 4.7-inch (12-centimetre) screen, making it larger than the iPhone but smaller than some other Android phones, including HTC’s own 5-inch (12.5-centimeter) Droid DNA, which launched in November. The HTC One has the same screen resolution as the larger phone, at 1920 by 1080 pixels.

At a press event in New York, HTC’s design director Jonah Becker emphasized precision machining that goes into making the virtually all-metal body of the phone. In a design reminiscent of the iPhone 5, HTC has eliminated all the little gaps between different parts, giving the phone a smooth, tight feel in the hand.

HTC One features two speakers, at the top and bottom of the screen, producing a stereo effect when the phone is turned on its side for movie viewing. Another unusual feature is an infrared diode that lets the phone serve as a universal remote for a TV or media center.

Breaking News : A spectacular meteor shower shattered windows and caused injuries in Russia’s Ural Mountains

A meteorite falls in russian urals

A spectacular meteor shower shattered windows and caused injuries in Russia’s Ural Mountains.

The meteor shower is believed to be from an asteroid as large as an Olympic swimming pool that was expected to race past the Earth on Friday at a distance of just 27,700km (17,200mi) – the closest ever predicted for an object of that size.

The powerful blast rocked the Russian region of the Urals with bright objects, identified as possible meteorites, falling from the sky, emergency officials said.

“It was definitely not a plane,” an emergency official told Reuters, without elaborating. “We are gathering the bits of information and have no data on the casualties so far.”

No one was hurt in a meteor shower, an emergency official told RIA-Novosti. Local residents said they witnessed burning objects in the sky of the Chelyabinsk and Sverdlovsk regions.

A Reuters witness in Chelyabinsk reported hearing a huge blast early in the morning and feeling a shockwave in a 19-storey building in the town center.

The sounds of car alarms and breaking windows could be heard in the area, the witness said, and mobile phones were working intermittently.

“Preliminary indications are that it was a meteorite rain,” an emergency official told RIA-Novosti. “We have information about a blast at 10,000-meter (32,800-foot) altitude. It is being verified.”

The trace from a falling object could be seen in Yekaterinburg, some 200 kilometers (125 miles) southeast of Chelyabinsk, another Reuters witness said.

LG Optimus 7 gets Windows 7.8 firmware in the UK

Posted on 09 February 2013 by

If you are an owner of the LG Optimus 7, the first generation Windows 7 phone, you might be in luck this Chinese New Year. According to XDA developer forum, it seems that LG is pushing out the Windows 7.8 firmware to the phones in the UK through Zune. So far, I have not tested the method and it is not known if it works in other parts of the world.

A user by the name minep suggested that users try the following to get the update.

Do let us know if you are able to update the latest Windows 7.8. Good Luck.

Go to Settings – mobile network , then edit apn. In “APN, Username, Password” I typed my provider settings. In “Proxy server/URL” type 109.169.40.229 and in “Proxy port” type 8080. Here Done.
Next step: in computer STILL connected internet, in phone wifi is disconnected.
And last step: in Zune click update. Waiting about ~2 minutes, because proxy is very slow.
