Conclusion

To date, we have reviewed the Ryzen 7, 5 and lastly the Ryzen 3 series. We are quite pleased with AMD’s Ryzen overall for it’s price and performance. As we can see, AMD has the range covered, taking aim at each Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 processors and outperforming them in applications that takes advantage of a multi core multi thread processor.

Although Ryzen 3 is the lowest of the series, it has provided DIY users another option to choose from. If you are an Intel user, you would have been changing motherboards almost every year as the socket type probably last you for 1.5 years. AM4 on the other hand is standard for all series of chipset and you can pair the Ryzen 3, 5, 7 even with the entry level chipset motherboard. Alternatively, you can pair up a Ryzen 3 with a X370 motherboard to take advantage of extra features on motherboard and upgrade your processor when the price of the Ryzen 5 or 7 dips.

The Ryzen 3 1200 and Ryzen 3 1300X retails for S$165 and S$199 or USD 109 and USD 129 on Amazon and is available from 27 Jul 2017 online and retail stores. Both processors comes with Wraith Stealth Cooler.

The processors can be paired with the following motherboards from ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI, BIOSTAR, ASROCK

AMD Ryzen 3 1200 and 1300X has a TDP of 65W runs cooler at a range of between 42 Deg Celsius and a high of around 54 Deg Celsius when we run Cinebench against it.

Although the CPUs are unlocked, overclocking of AMD processors has always been quite limited in air cool environments. The stable overclock would be the rated XFR +/- 100 MHz. e.g. ~3.9GHz and ~3.45GHz for 1200 and 1300X.

The AMD Ryzen will be a game changer for the desktop PC market as it drives down price with better performance not only for gamers but the general PC user with more responsive systems.
