Conclusion

The ASUS P8Z68-V Pro based on the Intel Z68 chipset is probably one of the Z68 boards to stand out from the crowd with it’s performance. In our tests, we see that the speed has scale very well especially with ISRT to speed up disk access and Lucid Virtu for tapping the processor power for faster transcoding.

In terms of features, the board has 2 PCIe 2.0 x16 slots (single @16, dual @8+8), 1 PCIe 2.0×16 (max x4 mode), 2 PCIe2.0×1 and 2 PCI slots. Video output includes supports of HDMI, DVI-D, D-SUB. Storage supports 4 SATA 6.0Gbps (2 grey, 2 navy blue connectors), 4 SATA 3.0Gbps ports (blue) and 1 eSATA 3.0Gbs/ port. Blue and Grey ports support the Intel Smart Response Technology.  The GbE LAN is powered by Intel 82579 Gbe LAN controller.the ASUS P8Z68-V Pro has a Bluetooth module on board for BT GO! support. Other features of this board includes Dual Intelligent Processors 2 with DIGI+ VRM, TPU (simple onboard switch to boost system performance), EPU (Energy efficiency), BT GO ! (Transfer files, Remote control of PC) and UEFI BIOS (EZ mode) to control the setup BIOS of the mainboard in addition to the goods of the Intel Z68 chipset.

For overclocking, there is a good selection of options available for tweaking the processor speed and gpu speed. For our test, we only managed to reach to 4.6GHz. Alternatively you can also use the bundled software TurboV EVO to auto or manually tune it within Windows.

Installation is pretty straightforward. One thing that seems missing is the debug led which helps a lot when troubleshooting. A clear cmos switch at the rear is also not existant on the board. Documentation is pretty detail and we can find a page on how to go about enabling ISRT. Packaging can be improved if it includes say front panel docking stations with USB 3.0 connectors, that will certainly good to have.

In Conclusion, ASUS P8Z68V-Pro has good performance. The additions makes this board stand out with the add on features. I would recommend this board if the price is right.
