Chinese website it.com.cn has got their hands on a slide from Intel which details the features of the Intel X79 chipset which is scheduled for 4Q 2011.

The X79 chipset supports a new socket type processor sporting a 2011 pin LGA design. The processor series supported is known as Sandy Bridge-E. The chipset supports overclocking of processor core and memory. It  has 2 x 16 or 4 x 8 (total of 32 lanes). The chipset supports 14 SATA connections with 10 ports at 6Gbps and 8 ports supporting SATA and SAS. It has 14 USB 2.0 ports. There is no mention of ThunderBolt support as well as USB 3.0 (not an Intel spec product).

The X79 Experss chipset will replace the aging Intel X58
