Conclusion

Oppo Reno8 Pro 5G is the third phone we tested based on the Mediatek Dimensity 1200. Processor wise, this mid ranger is quite responsive and is on par with the Mi 10T Pro that is my daily driver. In fact, it runs cooler than some of my Snapdragon 865 or 8 Gen 1.

This newer design looks elegant and is a great improvement over the Reno7 Pro 5G. From the back, it looks a bit similar to the Find X5 Pro.

The back camera takes impressive takes surprising good pictures even in dark environment. In fact, night camera shots are so quick compared to the previous generation. In 4K video shooting mode, with AI enhancement enabled, it is capable of taking really clean and brighter night videos. Unfortunately, when AI enhancement mode is enabled, it can only shoot in 30 fps. The phone still lacks OIS.

As for 5G SA and NSA compatibility, this phone works with the M1 5G SA network and Gomo 5G NSA out of the box. We haven’t tested the SIMBA 5G NSA but we suspect it should work well with most 5G NSA networks.

In Conclusion, I think Oppo Reno8 Pro 5G is a smartphone that is speedy in performance in terms of processing and download speed (5G), it is also capable of night video shoot in HDR and Night mode which is only available on the premium models. Pair it up with a gimbal, this phone might be one of the more affordable smartphone for vlogging.
