ASUS just launched the budget smartphones ZenFone and it has received lots of flak online and offline. The same product with higher specifications is priced lower than an inferior specification at a higher price in Taiwan. Taiwanese consumers were complaining that ASUS ZenFone has different pricing and specifications for the Taiwanese and China market. The worst of all is that ASUS was not able to fulfill the pre-orders of the red colour ZenFone. At it’s press conference today, ASUS CEO apologized to the consumers and offer discounts and upgrades for the Taiwanese customers. Shi emphasized that ASUS will launch the higher specification product but he hopes that consumers will understand that costing is different in different countries and region, so this will affect the sale price of the product.
ASUS modified it’s price and specifications for the ZenFone to be inline with the Chinese mainland pricing (based on exchange rate). As for the pre order customers, they can choose to get to refund or upgrade by choosing freebies like addon 8G memory card and plastic casing for the handset in return for their support.
ASUS announced that the ZenFone5、ZenFone6 handsets price will be reduced by NT 500. There will also be an enhanced version, a unique 32GB version. As for those who ordered the red coloured version, ASUS will compensate with NT200 shopping voucher and they can to swap it to a black or white edition.
