StarHub Revises Cable TV Subscription Rates From 1 August 2011
-

Singapore, 28 June 2011 – StarHub will revise its residential cable TV monthly subscription by an additional $2 (before GST) with effect from 1 August 2011.

Ms Iris Wee, StarHub’s Vice President of Home Solutions and Content, explained that this rate revision is necessary because of rising content costs over the past few years. “StarHub has been absorbing these costs while enhancing our TV content to customers,” said Ms Wee. “We have managed to hold our prices for the last four years but we are unable to continue absorbing the increased costs. We hope that our customers will understand our situation and support us so that we can continue to provide them with quality entertainment for their enjoyment.”

StarHub has through the recent years, added as many as 15 channels for customers at entry level at no additional charge. These include Animax, BBC Knowledge, Bloomberg Television, E City, Eurosportnews, Food Network Asia, FOX, National Geographic Wild, ONE, Playhouse Disney, SuperSports Arena and TVBS-News. In addition, StarHub had dedicated channels that were event-based such as the 2008 Beijing Olympics and 2010 Youth Olympic Games. All these helped to enhance the viewing experience of its customers.

For more information on the StarHub TV rate revision, customers may SMS ‘CATV’ to 76333 or call 1633 and press ‘7’ after the ‘language’ and ‘StarHub product’ options for more details. They can also visit a specially created StarHub-Facebook page at www.starhub.com/tvraterevision. Alternatively, customers may email their queries to starhubtv@starhub.com.

MotoGP in HD, 3D to follow?

MotoGP is to be broadcast in full HD for the first time in 2010, while a documentary will be produced using 3D technology.

In 2010, RTL Club (Belgium), Eurosport (France), Sport TV (Portugal), Digisport (Hungary) and Viasat (Scandinavia) will all broadcast the MotoGP season in HD within Europe.

Outside Europe, HD will stretch as far as Speed TV (US), ESPN (Latin America), Globosat (Brazil), One HD (Australia), StarHub (Singapore), Sky (New Zealand), Al Jazeera (Middle East), ESPN Star Sports (Asia) and Supersport (Africa), with further HD broadcasters expected to come on board during the season.

‘This will feature images captured during the [2010] MotoGP season, and channels broadcasting in 3D such as ESPN and Sky have already shown interest in broadcasting such coverage of the sport,’ said a Dorna statement.

The Pace team is led by John Bruno, who was part of the Visual Effects team involved in the Academy Award winning film Avatar.

IT SHOW 2010 Pre Show coverage – What to look for at IT SHOW 2010 at SUNTEC 11-14 March 2010

Posted on 07 March 2010 by bluetooth

What to look for at IT SHOW 2010 (11-14 Mar 2010)

We have a IT show every quarter in Singapore. In a few days time, we will have the IT SHow 2010. To be held at Suntec, this event will span 5 floors where most of the telcos, IT vendors will showcase and clear their stocks at rock bottom prices.

In fact, IT show 2010 is also a good time for manufacturers to showcase some new products. Sony for example, will be showcasing its 3D TV that is scheduled to launch in the 3rd quarter of this year. (You can read about our coverage of the SONY 3D BRAVIA LCD TV here). iCell, the local wireless@SG operator would also be selling its own brand e-reader at the show. Do watch out for it.

For students, it is also a good time to bring back a cheap netbook or notebook as most vendors will be selling their latest Atom and Core i3/Core i5 Intel notebooks at the show. The best steal would still be the AMD based notebooks which are generally way cheaper than the INtel counterparts.

On the mobile front, the 3 telcos will be fighting one another for customers to expand their user base. We wouldn’t be surprise if they bundle more goodies for mobile broadband, fixed line broadband, IPTV/Cable TV and voice lines for better deals.

So watch out for more news and price list information in our forum at this link http://forums.ocworkbench.com/forumdisplay.php?f=77

Singapore Singtel-Starhub joint bid failed to secure rights to FIFA World Cup 2010 broadcast rights

Posted on 15 December 2009 by bluetooth

A joint SingTel-Starhub bid has failed to secure them the rights to the 2010 Fifa World Cup; a joint press statement from them said.

Recently, SingTel and StarHub put in a joint offer that would provide FIFA with an increase in value from four years ago for the rights to the 2010 FIFA World Cup, while ensuring that it would remain affordable to the broadest number of our customers.

In an attempt to reach a value that is acceptable to FIFA to bring World Cup to Singapore, the price offered to FIFA would sacrifice all World Cup margins for both SingTel and StarHub while keeping the price affordable for consumers. However, we have yet to reach an agreement with FIFA.

Due to FIFA’s confidentiality provisions, we are unable to disclose any other details. We will continue to negotiate with FIFA in an attempt to reach an agreement.

As joint bid means both did not get the rights to telecast the FIFA World Cup 2010, the only possibility is that Singapore will get to watch the 4 most important matches on Free to Air channels. That is the opening game between host South Africa and Mexico on June 11, the semi-finals on July 6 and 7, and the final on July 11 will be available for free.
