LG AND INTEL SIGN STRATEGIC ALLIANCE FOR INTEL WIRELESS DISPLAY (WiDi) TECHNOLOGY

Posted on 16 December 2011 by bluetooth

LG AND INTEL SIGN STRATEGIC ALLIANCE FOR
INTEL WIRELESS DISPLAY (WiDi) TECHNOLOGY
LG and Intel Collaborate on Intel WiDi to Enhance Content
Accessibility of CINEMA 3D Smart TVs

SEOUL, Dec. 15, 2011 – LG Electronics (LG) and Intel entered into a strategic alliance to adopt and jointly promote Intel? Wireless Display (WiDi) technology. Intel WiDi will be embedded into next year’s LG CINEMA 3D Smart TVs, making them the first in the TV industry to feature Intel WiDi technology. Intel WiDi is a wireless connectivity inter-face which allows for instant, high-definition viewing of content stored in notebooks and other external mobile devices on large screen TVs, projectors or monitors.

“Through this strategic alliance, CINEMA 3D Smart TV users will be able to access a wider variety of content in a more convenient manner,” said Seog-ho Ro, Senior Vice President of LG Home Entertainment Company’s TV Business Unit. “Intel WiDi will be one of several features that will enhance the user convenience of our CINEMA 3D Smart TVs, further differentiating our products from the competition.”

“Intel is planning to expand Intel WiDi technology to various devices to provide con-sumers the seamless, smarter usage experience,” said Hee-Sung Lee, Country Manager of Intel Korea. “Through this collaboration with LG Electronics, LG CINEMA 3D Smart TV users could also benefit from Intel? WiDi without the need to purchase an ex-ternal adapter.”

Intel WiDi not only enables sharing of stored content, it also transfers onto CINEMA 3D Smart TVs, projectors and monitors a spectrum of online contents – such as YouTube videos and streaming TV shows from broadcast websites – that are accessible through notebooks and other mobile devices. Users can view such contents through the expan-sive and immersive high-definition CINEMA 3D display.

Like wired connectivity standards, such as HDMI and USB cables, Intel WiDi does not require an active wireless internet or WiFi connection to transfer content between exter-nal mobile devices and CINEMA 3D Smart TVs. Intel WiDi establishes a direct connec-tion between the WiFi chips embedded in the external mobile devices and the CINEMA 3D Smart TVs.

Furthermore, Intel WiDi does not tie down the mobile device during real-time content sharing. Users may perform other tasks on their notebooks and tablet PCs while simul-taneously streaming content to a CINEMA 3D Smart TV, projector or monitor.

LG and Intel would undertake co-marketing activities and Intel WiDi-enabled LG CINEMA 3D products will be on display at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) next month in Las Vegas.

LG Optimus 3D P920 3D Android Phone Review
Bluetooth 23 Oct 2011

Phones have evolved so much these few years, from keyboard to touch screen, to voice control etc. Although most people will agree that most Android phones are just iPhone look alike with similar features, LG Optimus 3D is otherwise.

LG Optimus 3D, is quite different from it’s competitors. Based on Android 2.2 which LG promised an upgrade, the LG Optimus 3D spots a glasses-free 4.3″ wide display, displaying 3D contents that are recorded by the phone or from Youtube. The dual 5 mega pixel camera is capable of doing real time video recording and still images both in 3D. 3D videos can be uploaded to youtube immediately. It can also record 2D videos at 1080P HD resolution and 720p in 3D.

There is also a 3D hot key on the rear of the phone. It can convert 2D to 3D vice versa by the press of the button. 3D game converter is added in the latest firmware (v10d). You can also share and view 3D videos on the large screen effortlessly, with HDMI 1.4 connection to 3D equipped TV.

All this is accomplish with LG’s advanced “tri-dual” configuration: a dual-core, dual channel and dual memory architecture based on the ground breaking TI OMAP4 chipset. This configuration enables users to enjoy significantly improved performance and run-time compared to any other smartphone. Unlike other dual-core smartphones, with single channel and single memory, the LG Optimus 3D enables the simultaneous- and thus faster transfer of data between its dual-core, dual channel and dual memory.

The phone is capable of running on 2G GSM 850/1800/1900, 3G HSDPA (900/1900/2100) and hSDPA (1700/2100/850), HSDPA-HSPA+ (14.4Mbps/5.7Mbps) networks. It has a dimension of 128.8x68x11.9 and weighs 168g.

The screen is a 3D LCD Capacitive Touch screen with 16M colours at (480×800). It has a battery pack of 1500mAH. The processor is a Dual-core 1GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor, PowerVR,SGX540 GPU, TI OMAP4430 chipset.

In the following pages, we will take a look at the interface, pictures and videos recorded using the phone.

LG BEGINS GLOBAL ROLLOUT OF REMOTE CALL SERVICES FOR OPTIMUS SMARTPHONE USERS
With Intelligent and Easy Access, New Services Offer Instant Customer Care Anytime, Anywhere

SEOUL, Aug. 1, 2011 — LG Electronics’ (LG) remote customer care services, which includes a pre-loaded Remote Call application and the LG FOTA (Firmware Over-the-Air) system, will now be made available to user worldwide, following the initial roll-out in Korea. This makes LG the first mobile phone manufacturer to offer remote maintenance services as a way to diagnose software problems and to distribute software upgrades direct to customers’ phones.

Thanks to the services’ instant support via a 3G or Wi-Fi network, consumers no longer need to visit an LG Customer Information Center (CIC) if a problem arises with their smartphones. This convenience has already drawn compliments from many customers in Korea, who have benefitted from the service since May.

“Convenience is what LG is about and remote call services fit our brand character perfectly,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “LG is leading the way in virtual services and follow-up care for our customers everywhere. Being there for customers from A to Z is a key priority for us.”

LG’s remote call services are available on premium Optimus smartphones, including the LG Optimus 2X, the LG Optimus Black and the LG Optimus 3D. With the pre-loaded “Remote Call” application users can diagnose their phone’s problems without having to visit a repair shop.

Once registered, LG CIC agents will be able to wirelessly access the owner’s Optimus smartphone. For security purposes, LG technical staff will not be able to access any personal information – including emails, messages, calendars or pictures – without the users’ consent.

Using the convenient, intelligent LG FOTA system and pre-loaded FOTA application, owners will also receive regular alerts of the most current updates. The system makes it extremely convenient for customers to keep their phones up-to-date with the very latest functions and features without the need to connect to a PC or visit a service center.

LG LEADING THE WAY IN GLASSES-FREE 3D LG D2000 Monitor with Eye-tracking Technology Delivers Naked Eye 3D With Ultimate Comfort and Convenience

LG LEADING THE WAY IN GLASSES-FREE 3D
LG D2000 Monitor with Eye-tracking Technology Delivers Naked Eye 3D With Ultimate Comfort and Convenience

SEOUL, July, 13, 2011 – LG Electronics (LG) today unveiled the world’s first glasses-free monitor utilizing eye-tracking technology to maintain an optimal 3D image from a range of viewing angles. The 20-inch D2000 monitor was developed as a fully func-tional entertainment display capable of reproducing games, movies and images in all their realistic glory.

“With a full line-up of 3D TVs, laptops, projectors and smartphones, LG Electronics is by far and away the industry leader in all things 3D.” said Si-hwan Park, Vice President of the Monitor Division at LG’s Home Entertainment Company. “LG’s position has al-ways been that 3D will and must eventually function without glasses. The D2000 is a look at what the future has in store.”

The D2000’s 3D effect comes courtesy of glasses-free parallax barrier 3D technology, and the application of the world’s first eye-tracking feature to the monitor. The combi-nation of parallax barrier and eye-tracking in a single unit promises to open up new ho-rizons for glasses-free 3D products.

Existing glasses-free 3D technologies generally require viewers to stay within a tightly restricted angle and distance to perceive the 3D images. However, the D2000 has done much to resolve this issue, allowing viewer much freer movement and more comfort-able viewing. Eye tracking in the D2000 works via a special camera sensor attached to the monitor which detects changes in the user’s eye position in real-time. With this in-formation, the monitor calculates the angle and position of the viewer and adjusts the displayed image for the optimal 3D effect.

In addition to playing back existing 3D content, the D2000 has a highly refined 2D to 3D conversion feature which adds a new dimension to existing movies and game playing.

The D2000, available in Korea this month, will be introduced in other markets around the world in the latter part of 2011.

CommunicAsia 2011 – What new mobile phones and tablets to see at CommunicAsia 2011 ?

Posted on 19 June 2011 by bluetooth

Which mobile phones and tablets to see at CommunicAsia 2011 ?

CommunicAsia 2011 will be held in Singapore from 21 to 24 June in Singapore. This year, we will see less mobile phone manufacturers participating in this event.

Samsung is out as it has it’s own trade show held annually. LG also pulled out since 2010.

Sony Ericsson will not be participating at the CommunicAsia as usual. Instead it will have it’s own media event on the 2nd day of CommunicAsia. They have invited regional media and there are already rumours that they will be launching a dual core Android powerhouse. So, far details are sketchy but we will soon know in the coming days.

Nokia which held Nokia Connections event yearly is back in a big way at the event though. Will Nokia be announcing showcasing their phones based on Windows Phone 7.

As usual the two biggest Chinese players, Huawei and ZTE should be there and they might be showing more tablets based on Android as that is in the in thing right now.

Stay tuned at OCWORKBENCH in the coming days for more.

Microsoft resumes Windows Phone 7 Update to 7008; Error 8000FFFF still persists

Posted on 06 March 2011 by bluetooth

Yesterday, we received notifications of the available update of our 2 Windows Phone 7 phones. Both the HTC trophy 7 and LG Optimus 7 received the update without any errors.

It is not to our surprise that the new patches didn’t change much of the existing OS. Errors arising from failed installations still exists. This happened when we download Guitar Hero 5. To the phone, it seems to be installed and it prompts for an update. When you click the update button, it prompts Failure with Error 8000FFFF. There is also no way you can uninstall the application as it is not listed in the XBOX LIVE Tile.

Below are some pictures of the update procedure which took around 15 minutes to complete.

LG Optimus 7 E900 Windows Phone 7 Review @ OCWorkbench

Posted on 28 November 2010 by bluetooth

LG Optimus 7 E900 Windows Phone 7 Review
bluetooth 28 Nov 2010

In the past, Smartphones were usually associated with Windows Mobile. In fact, that is somewhat made possible with the large number of apps available on that WM6 and WM6.5 with keyboard interface.

When Apple iphone came into the mobile scene, things changed as it offered a touch screen with tons of apps that runs way smoother and easier to use. Android joined in later and it has also eroded the marketshare of Windows phones.

Microsoft has to do something about it. With much anticipation, Microsoft officially announced it’s Windows Phone 7 series early this year. The new mobile Operating System is not compatible with WM6.5 and it has a totally new concept known as HUBs. It makes access to features easier with the a capactive screen.

Microsoft probably learnt a few tricks from Apple as it tries to lock up a number of features and to standardise the feature set on all the manufacturer’s products. Thus, most Windows Phone 7, be it from LG, HTC or Samsung would be quite similar in specifications except the screen, camera battery capacity just to name a few.

Today, we take a look the new Optimus 7, the first Windows Phone 7 mobile handset from LG.

LG Optimus 7 E900 is a standard candybar touchscreen phone with a 3.8 inch display, a 1 GHz processor, 512 MB RAM and a 5 MP camera.

The hardware specifications of the LG E900 Optimus 7 are pretty impressive. They are the same as the high end Android phones like the Samsung Galaxy S or the Motorola Droid X.

The 5 megapixel camera is capable of capturing in standard or wide screen mode of up to 2592 x 1944 pixels. It has autofocus, LED flash and HD 720p video recording with LED. As for connectivity, it supports GPRS, EDGE, 3G HSDPA, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with DLNA, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, microUSB 2.0.

Similar to the iPhone, you would need a client software Zune to synchronise your music, videos, images with the phone using the cable. I particularly like the feature Play to. You can use that to Play your video or to your Win7 PC conencted to the same WiFi Access point. While this is a good feature to have, Windows Phone 7 does not support tethering, so you can’t use the phone to share out your 3G network to the PCs in your environment. (There is a hack which can enable dial up networking but it doesn’t seem to work for me as I am unsure of the parameters to be supplied for the telco).

Below are pictures and specifications of the Optimus 7

Specifications

•Dimensions: 125 x 59.8 x 11.5 mm
•Weight: 157 gms
•Display: 3.8 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen display, 480 x 800 pixels
•OS: Windows Phone 7
•Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD 8650 1 GHz procesor
•RAM: 512 MB RAM
•Memory: 16 GB internal storage
•Camera: 5 MP camera, 2592 x 1944 pixels, autofocus, LED flash, 720p video recording
•Connectivity: GPRS, EDGE, 3G HSDPA, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with DLNA, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, microUSB 2.0
•GPS: GPS transceiver with A-GPS support
•Battery: Standard Li-ion battery, 1500 mAh

Video Review of LG GD880 Mini Feature Phone

Posted on 11 July 2010 by bluetooth

Video Review of the LG GD880 Mini Feature Phone
Bluetooth  11 Jul 2010

Looking for a small size feature phone? THe LG GD880 will fit the bill. The first sight of it reminds me of the minis from various manufacturers, all trying to outbid one another to make it more compact and handy.

Finished in polished black with silver lining, this phone looks very unique just like the LG BL40 which is longer in size. It has icons and widgets similar to those you commonly see on Android phones.

The GD880 uses a 3.2″ TFT capacitive touchscreen, 16M Colors of Size 480 x 854 pixels and is powered by the ARM11 processor which is used in the original iPhone 3G.

Although the GD880 Mini is not a smartphone, it has some neat features that address the social media users.  You have  3 page customisable desktop (with widgets, shortucts, icons). They are widgets available for download for real time Facebook and Twitter updates on the 3 page desktop. When the desktop gets too messy, you can just shake the phone and it will help you arrange them in an orderly fashion.

The phone has a 10.6mm Slim 3.2″ Multi-touch LCD. It has  built-in Phantom Browser (Support Flash-lite v3.1). It supports Wi-Fi, HSDPA 7.2Mbps & GPS and comes with a 5MP Camera with Auto Focus & Face Detection (no flash). The GD880 also supports 2 finger pinch and zoom for pictures and in the browser to manify the text. There is a FM Radio built in.

LG GD880 is the first to implement the LG Air Sync. LG Air Sync allows you to synchronize your mobile with the computer without USB. A simple right click can select, resize, and crop from a PC or a website, and send directly to your LG Mini. You could also retrieve important information, like contact list, schedule and memo from your LG Air Sync account.

Posted on 13 June 2010 by bluetooth

The annaul CommunicAsia 2010 trade show is about to begin in 2 days time in Singapore. This annual event has attracted trade visitors and media from around the globe to check out the latest wireless technology and most importantly mobile phones.

As usual, the major brands will be missing from the show. Sony Ericsson and Nokia will be holding their own private events at hotel ballrooms on two seperate days.  Koeran companies LG will have no presense at the exhibition as well.  Japanese giant NTT Docomo will have a more significant presense this year, showcasing it’s LTE technology and Xperia series of Sony Ericsson phones at the show.

In conjunction with the event, the local telcos won’t be sitting back. It is said that one of them will be announcing more exclusive phones to their stable of Android phones. Perhaps, one of the three might just announce the availability of iPhone 4 and iPad for the local market during this period of time.

So, stay tuned while we bring you more this coming week.
