BARCELONA, Feb. 24, 2013 – LG Electronics (LG) will unveil a smartphone lineup at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain that focuses on a four-tier strategy. The four strategic Optimus series devices – G, Vu:, F and LII – all feature LG’s next generation core technologies. These new models combine outstanding hardware, world-class high definition displays and a user-centric user experience (UX) with each series emphasizing a different facet of the company’s smartphone expertise.

With an initial target to sell 10 million smartphone each quarter and double sales of LTE devices in 2013, this is LG’s most ambitious smartphone strategy to date. Flagship models from the G and Vu: series will target the premium segment while the F and L series will be positioned as more mass audience smartphones for 4G LTE and the 3G markets, respectively.

LG Optimus G Series — Flagship Superphones Featuring World-class Hardware
Since the launch of LG’s Optimus G last September, the immensely popular flagship product has received a number of awards and favorable reviews thanks to its high quality display, advanced 4G LTE technology, superb design and innovative UX. Development of the Optimus G was the result of close collaboration with sister companies LG Chem, LG Display and LG Innotek.

The Optimus G is the first smartphone in the world to employ Qualcomm’s powerful Snapdragon™ S4 Pro Quad-Core processor. And LG’s True HD IPS Plus display and Zerogap Touch technology deliver vibrant, high quality images and superior touch responsiveness. In addition to its unmatched hardware, stylish design and a beautiful screen, the Optimus G also incorporates user-friendly UX features, such as QSlide, QuickMemo and Live Zooming.

Originally launched in key target LTE markets, the LG Optimus G is making its debut in over 50 countries. The newest addition to LG’s Optimus G series, the Optimus G Pro, was recently introduced to the Korean public. The Optimus G Pro is a 4G LTE-equipped smartphone with a 5.5-inch Full HD IPS display and compelling new UX features such as Dual Recording and Virtual Reality (VR) Panorama.

LG Optimus Vu: Series — Large Screens for Enhanced Viewing Experience
A new hybrid LTE device that combines the portability of a smartphone with the viewing experience of a tablet, LG’s Optimus Vu: is equipped with a 5-inch, 4:3 aspect ratio display that is ideal for viewing documents, e-books, multimedia content and browsing the internet. With the recent addition of the Optimus Vu: 2 in the Korean market, there are now two devices in Vu: Series that deliver a unique mobile user experience with UX features such as Vu: Talk and QRemote.

LG Optimus F Series — 4G LTE Smartphone for Everyone
LG’s Optimus F Series is the ideal 4G LTE smartphones for just about everyone. Both the Optimus F5 and Optimus F7 were specifically designed for consumers making the transition from 3G to 4G LTE networks. The launch of Optimus F Series this year will enable LG to expand its footprint rapidly in the burgeoning 4G LTE market. LG Optimus F will deliver to new 4G customers the speed of LTE and a range of useful UX features without the high entry fee demanded by most 4G smartphones. The Optimus F5 and Optimus F7 will be showcased at LG’s MWC booth.

LG Optimus LII Series — Continuation of Unique Design Heritage
The Optimus LII Series incorporates the refined sensibilities of LG’s L-Style design philosophy. Each 3G phone’s subtle yet bold aesthetics are representative of LG’s unmistakable design DNA. Surpassing the beauty of the first L Series, the Optimus LII Series were developed around four new design elements: Seamless Layout, Laser Cut Contour, Radiant Rear Design and a home button with Smart LED Lighting. The Optimus L3II, Optimus L5II and Optimus L7II will all be on display at MWC.

Creative and Friendly UX — Intelligent Features That Go Beyond Hardware
LG continues to develop the most advanced UX in order to provide unrivaled user-centric features in the era of LTE technology and large, high-resolution displays. The company’s four new smartphone series include an array of advanced UX features that were designed to take maximum advantage of the hardware specific to these devices.

First unveiled on LG’s Optimus G, QSlide provides the ability to display two full-sized windows simultaneously, enabling users to perform a greater combination of tasks with increased efficiency. The recently upgraded version of QSlide allows for the opening of two apps at the same time in full screen mode and change the size, position and transparency of QSlide windows as needed. Video, browser, memo, calendar and calculator functions are all compatible with LG’s true multitasking UX. Dual Recording and Virtual Reality (VR) Panorama are two of the newest additions to LG’s UX specifically designed to take advantage of the latest Full HD display technologies to enhance the users’ mobile viewing experience.

LG Optimus 7 gets Windows 7.8 firmware in the UK

Posted on 09 February 2013 by

If you are an owner of the LG Optimus 7, the first generation Windows 7 phone, you might be in luck this Chinese New Year. According to XDA developer forum, it seems that LG is pushing out the Windows 7.8 firmware to the phones in the UK through Zune. So far, I have not tested the method and it is not known if it works in other parts of the world.

A user by the name minep suggested that users try the following to get the update.

Do let us know if you are able to update the latest Windows 7.8. Good Luck.

Go to Settings – mobile network , then edit apn. In “APN, Username, Password” I typed my provider settings. In “Proxy server/URL” type 109.169.40.229 and in “Proxy port” type 8080. Here Done.
Next step: in computer STILL connected internet, in phone wifi is disconnected.
And last step: in Zune click update. Waiting about ~2 minutes, because proxy is very slow.

LG TO CHANGE MARKET DYNAMICS WITH OPTIMUS G

BY FOCUSING ON DIFFERENTIATED USER EXPERIENCE

LG’s New Flagship LTE Device Offers Superior

User Experience for “Living Without Boundaries”

SEOUL, Sep. 18, 2012 – Today LG announced the launch of the Optimus G, a new premium flagship device offering a unique User Experience (UX) supported by innovative hardware performance. The powerful hardware included in the Optimus G allows for the possibility of such a creative and engaging UX which will enable Optimus G users to “live without boundaries.”

With the powerful quad-core CPU, Snapdragon™ S4 Pro processor and industry best technologies for enhanced viewing and longer battery life, LG adds the finishing touches on the Optimus G with a beautiful sleek design and innovative UX features. The offerings in the Optimus G will provide users an experience currently unavailable on any other smartphone.

“The Optimus G is a groundbreaking premium device not only in the history of LG but also in the smartphone industry,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “With the Optimus G, users will be able to experience unsurpassed UX features that will allow them to perform tasks that really enhance their daily lives.”

New Form of Cross-Tasking and Engaging UX

With reliable and speedy performance, LG’s Optimus G doesn’t solely enable multi-tasking but “cross-tasking” of activities without limitations. If multi-tasking applies to running various applications at the same time, cross-tasking applies to complex tasks that can be completed simultaneously without having to compromise other tasks. Some new UX features that will be included into the Optimus G to showcase its cross-tasking and engaging capabilities are:

  • QSlide Function shows two different screens simultaneously on one display. As it doesn’t just show a part of the screen but the entire screen of both functions, the user can complete two tasks concurrently – such as sending a text message or searching the web while watching a video;
  • Live Zooming enhances the video-watching experience as users can zoom in up to five times while the video is being streamed for a close-up of one’s child while watching a recorded video from a school recital;
  • Dual Screen Dual Play not only allows mirroring between the smartphone and a TV, it also has the ability to display different content on each screen wirelessly. For example, a slide presentation can be displayed on the TV while the Optimus G shows the accompanying speaking notes;
  • QuickMemo allows users to write, draw, or jot a memo with their finger directly on the captured screen for sharing instantly with others as an attachment or a URL. The QuickMemo can also be used as an overlay feature – like jotting down a number using the QuickMemo and directly dialing the number while the number is on the top layer;
  • Screen Zooming allows for the zooming in and out of lists in music player, email, text messages and photo gallery. It also offers the ability to change the font size and screen layout;
  • Application Link launches preset applications (email, calendar, weather, etc.)  when the alarm is turned off – making preparation time in the morning go a little faster with all the information on your screen;
  • Icon Personalizer allows users the ability to customize icons by editing size and adding images so the most frequently used apps can be most easily accessible.

In addition, smart and fun camera features in Optimus G will allow for capturing and seizing those special moments in our lives. Utilizing the industry’s highest resolution camera at 13MP, users will have the opportunity to capture their favorite scenes with:

  • Smart Shutter senses camera vibration or the movement of the subject and adjusts the shutter speed for the best shot;
  • Time Catch Shot enables the user to choose the best among various shots taken before the shutter button is pressed;
  • Cheese Shutter takes photos easily with voice activation command just by saying cheese, kimchi, smile or even LG;
  • Low Light Shot Noise Reduction employs a light monitoring system and activates when the camera is used in a low-light situation for the least amount of noise.

Design Masterpiece with Timeless Value

Inheriting LG’s design DNA and heritage, the blend of delicate design and technology placed the emphasis on simplicity with a completely black unibody form in the Optimus G. For this unique look, LG developed and patented the Crystal Reflection finish, which is applied to the back of the Optimus G for a luxurious look and feel. Crystal Reflection gives the Optimus G’s back cover the ability to display different patterns depending on the viewing angle and lighting. Also, the intricate polarized pattern, which sparkles under the sleek surface, creates a three-dimensional illusion that is eye-catching and exquisitely reminiscent of a jewel. And finally, laser cutting gives the Optimus G a clean finish with metallic highlights.

Unparalleled Technologies for Ultimate UX

The elegant yet sleek design and the imaginative UX experience displayed in the new Optimus G were possible thanks to a collection of technologies from industry-leading developers in their field.

As the first quad-core smartphone with LTE connectivity capabilities, Optimus G complements the enhanced UX features with unsurpassed speed and power from Qualcomm’s Snapdragon™ S4 Pro Quad-Core CPU processor. The state-of-the-art display technologies such as the Zerogap Touch and True HD IPSPlus Display from LG Innotek and LG Display harmonize to offer the slimmest, sharpest and clearest viewing experience yet. The new battery from LG Chem has a longer life of 800 cycles, a significant improvement over existing mobile phone batteries. An ultra high-resolution, compact 13MP camera is employed in the Optimus G to offer the sharpest photos without pixelation – even when creating extra-large prints.

LG Optimus G will go on sale in Korea starting next week followed by key global markets in October.

LG AND INTEL SIGN STRATEGIC ALLIANCE FOR INTEL WIRELESS DISPLAY (WiDi) TECHNOLOGY

Posted on 16 December 2011 by

LG AND INTEL SIGN STRATEGIC ALLIANCE FOR
INTEL WIRELESS DISPLAY (WiDi) TECHNOLOGY
LG and Intel Collaborate on Intel WiDi to Enhance Content
Accessibility of CINEMA 3D Smart TVs

SEOUL, Dec. 15, 2011 – LG Electronics (LG) and Intel entered into a strategic alliance to adopt and jointly promote Intel? Wireless Display (WiDi) technology. Intel WiDi will be embedded into next year’s LG CINEMA 3D Smart TVs, making them the first in the TV industry to feature Intel WiDi technology. Intel WiDi is a wireless connectivity inter-face which allows for instant, high-definition viewing of content stored in notebooks and other external mobile devices on large screen TVs, projectors or monitors.

“Through this strategic alliance, CINEMA 3D Smart TV users will be able to access a wider variety of content in a more convenient manner,” said Seog-ho Ro, Senior Vice President of LG Home Entertainment Company’s TV Business Unit. “Intel WiDi will be one of several features that will enhance the user convenience of our CINEMA 3D Smart TVs, further differentiating our products from the competition.”

“Intel is planning to expand Intel WiDi technology to various devices to provide con-sumers the seamless, smarter usage experience,” said Hee-Sung Lee, Country Manager of Intel Korea. “Through this collaboration with LG Electronics, LG CINEMA 3D Smart TV users could also benefit from Intel? WiDi without the need to purchase an ex-ternal adapter.”

Intel WiDi not only enables sharing of stored content, it also transfers onto CINEMA 3D Smart TVs, projectors and monitors a spectrum of online contents – such as YouTube videos and streaming TV shows from broadcast websites – that are accessible through notebooks and other mobile devices. Users can view such contents through the expan-sive and immersive high-definition CINEMA 3D display.

Like wired connectivity standards, such as HDMI and USB cables, Intel WiDi does not require an active wireless internet or WiFi connection to transfer content between exter-nal mobile devices and CINEMA 3D Smart TVs. Intel WiDi establishes a direct connec-tion between the WiFi chips embedded in the external mobile devices and the CINEMA 3D Smart TVs.

Furthermore, Intel WiDi does not tie down the mobile device during real-time content sharing. Users may perform other tasks on their notebooks and tablet PCs while simul-taneously streaming content to a CINEMA 3D Smart TV, projector or monitor.

LG and Intel would undertake co-marketing activities and Intel WiDi-enabled LG CINEMA 3D products will be on display at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) next month in Las Vegas.

LG Optimus 3D P920 3D Android Phone Review
Bluetooth 23 Oct 2011

Phones have evolved so much these few years, from keyboard to touch screen, to voice control etc. Although most people will agree that most Android phones are just iPhone look alike with similar features, LG Optimus 3D is otherwise.

LG Optimus 3D, is quite different from it’s competitors. Based on Android 2.2 which LG promised an upgrade, the LG Optimus 3D spots a glasses-free 4.3″ wide display, displaying 3D contents that are recorded by the phone or from Youtube. The dual 5 mega pixel camera is capable of doing real time video recording and still images both in 3D. 3D videos can be uploaded to youtube immediately. It can also record 2D videos at 1080P HD resolution and 720p in 3D.

There is also a 3D hot key on the rear of the phone. It can convert 2D to 3D vice versa by the press of the button. 3D game converter is added in the latest firmware (v10d). You can also share and view 3D videos on the large screen effortlessly, with HDMI 1.4 connection to 3D equipped TV.

All this is accomplish with LG’s advanced “tri-dual” configuration: a dual-core, dual channel and dual memory architecture based on the ground breaking TI OMAP4 chipset. This configuration enables users to enjoy significantly improved performance and run-time compared to any other smartphone. Unlike other dual-core smartphones, with single channel and single memory, the LG Optimus 3D enables the simultaneous- and thus faster transfer of data between its dual-core, dual channel and dual memory.

The phone is capable of running on 2G GSM 850/1800/1900, 3G HSDPA (900/1900/2100) and hSDPA (1700/2100/850), HSDPA-HSPA+ (14.4Mbps/5.7Mbps) networks. It has a dimension of 128.8x68x11.9 and weighs 168g.

The screen is a 3D LCD Capacitive Touch screen with 16M colours at (480×800). It has a battery pack of 1500mAH. The processor is a Dual-core 1GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor, PowerVR,SGX540 GPU, TI OMAP4430 chipset.

In the following pages, we will take a look at the interface, pictures and videos recorded using the phone.

LG BEGINS GLOBAL ROLLOUT OF REMOTE CALL SERVICES FOR OPTIMUS SMARTPHONE USERS
With Intelligent and Easy Access, New Services Offer Instant Customer Care Anytime, Anywhere

SEOUL, Aug. 1, 2011 — LG Electronics’ (LG) remote customer care services, which includes a pre-loaded Remote Call application and the LG FOTA (Firmware Over-the-Air) system, will now be made available to user worldwide, following the initial roll-out in Korea. This makes LG the first mobile phone manufacturer to offer remote maintenance services as a way to diagnose software problems and to distribute software upgrades direct to customers’ phones.

Thanks to the services’ instant support via a 3G or Wi-Fi network, consumers no longer need to visit an LG Customer Information Center (CIC) if a problem arises with their smartphones. This convenience has already drawn compliments from many customers in Korea, who have benefitted from the service since May.

“Convenience is what LG is about and remote call services fit our brand character perfectly,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “LG is leading the way in virtual services and follow-up care for our customers everywhere. Being there for customers from A to Z is a key priority for us.”

LG’s remote call services are available on premium Optimus smartphones, including the LG Optimus 2X, the LG Optimus Black and the LG Optimus 3D. With the pre-loaded “Remote Call” application users can diagnose their phone’s problems without having to visit a repair shop.

Once registered, LG CIC agents will be able to wirelessly access the owner’s Optimus smartphone. For security purposes, LG technical staff will not be able to access any personal information – including emails, messages, calendars or pictures – without the users’ consent.

Using the convenient, intelligent LG FOTA system and pre-loaded FOTA application, owners will also receive regular alerts of the most current updates. The system makes it extremely convenient for customers to keep their phones up-to-date with the very latest functions and features without the need to connect to a PC or visit a service center.

LG LEADING THE WAY IN GLASSES-FREE 3D LG D2000 Monitor with Eye-tracking Technology Delivers Naked Eye 3D With Ultimate Comfort and Convenience

LG LEADING THE WAY IN GLASSES-FREE 3D
LG D2000 Monitor with Eye-tracking Technology Delivers Naked Eye 3D With Ultimate Comfort and Convenience

SEOUL, July, 13, 2011 – LG Electronics (LG) today unveiled the world’s first glasses-free monitor utilizing eye-tracking technology to maintain an optimal 3D image from a range of viewing angles. The 20-inch D2000 monitor was developed as a fully func-tional entertainment display capable of reproducing games, movies and images in all their realistic glory.

“With a full line-up of 3D TVs, laptops, projectors and smartphones, LG Electronics is by far and away the industry leader in all things 3D.” said Si-hwan Park, Vice President of the Monitor Division at LG’s Home Entertainment Company. “LG’s position has al-ways been that 3D will and must eventually function without glasses. The D2000 is a look at what the future has in store.”

The D2000’s 3D effect comes courtesy of glasses-free parallax barrier 3D technology, and the application of the world’s first eye-tracking feature to the monitor. The combi-nation of parallax barrier and eye-tracking in a single unit promises to open up new ho-rizons for glasses-free 3D products.

Existing glasses-free 3D technologies generally require viewers to stay within a tightly restricted angle and distance to perceive the 3D images. However, the D2000 has done much to resolve this issue, allowing viewer much freer movement and more comfort-able viewing. Eye tracking in the D2000 works via a special camera sensor attached to the monitor which detects changes in the user’s eye position in real-time. With this in-formation, the monitor calculates the angle and position of the viewer and adjusts the displayed image for the optimal 3D effect.

In addition to playing back existing 3D content, the D2000 has a highly refined 2D to 3D conversion feature which adds a new dimension to existing movies and game playing.

The D2000, available in Korea this month, will be introduced in other markets around the world in the latter part of 2011.

CommunicAsia 2011 – What new mobile phones and tablets to see at CommunicAsia 2011 ?

Posted on 19 June 2011 by

Which mobile phones and tablets to see at CommunicAsia 2011 ?

CommunicAsia 2011 will be held in Singapore from 21 to 24 June in Singapore. This year, we will see less mobile phone manufacturers participating in this event.

Samsung is out as it has it’s own trade show held annually. LG also pulled out since 2010.

Sony Ericsson will not be participating at the CommunicAsia as usual. Instead it will have it’s own media event on the 2nd day of CommunicAsia. They have invited regional media and there are already rumours that they will be launching a dual core Android powerhouse. So, far details are sketchy but we will soon know in the coming days.

Nokia which held Nokia Connections event yearly is back in a big way at the event though. Will Nokia be announcing showcasing their phones based on Windows Phone 7.

As usual the two biggest Chinese players, Huawei and ZTE should be there and they might be showing more tablets based on Android as that is in the in thing right now.

Stay tuned at OCWORKBENCH in the coming days for more.

Microsoft resumes Windows Phone 7 Update to 7008; Error 8000FFFF still persists

Posted on 06 March 2011 by

Yesterday, we received notifications of the available update of our 2 Windows Phone 7 phones. Both the HTC trophy 7 and LG Optimus 7 received the update without any errors.

It is not to our surprise that the new patches didn’t change much of the existing OS. Errors arising from failed installations still exists. This happened when we download Guitar Hero 5. To the phone, it seems to be installed and it prompts for an update. When you click the update button, it prompts Failure with Error 8000FFFF. There is also no way you can uninstall the application as it is not listed in the XBOX LIVE Tile.

Below are some pictures of the update procedure which took around 15 minutes to complete.
